For Those "Grey Gardens" Fans Out There

TCM Premieres Documentary Grey Gardens October 29 to Coincide with Broadway Debut

Documentary to Include New Commentary from Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson
Turner Classic Movies (TCM) unveils an intimate portrait of two indomitable individuals, Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter "Little" Edie in David and Albert Maysles'legendary 1975 documentary Grey Gardens airing Sunday, October 29, at 8 p.m. ET. The TCM premiere coincides with the Broadway debut of the Grey Gardens musical on Nov. 2 starring Tony Award-winner Christine Ebersole and Tony Award nominee Mary Louise Wilson. Additionally,TCM will supplement the documentary with Robert Osborne interviewing both Ebersole and Wilson prior to and concluding the film.

Grey Gardens showcases the eccentric aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
who were once among the brightest names in the pre-Camelot social register but became
East Hampton's most notorious recluses that thrived together amid the decay and disorder of their dilapidated 28-room mansion. Grey Gardens records the Beales' real lives from mother and daughter quarrelling to the ruined estate crawling with cats and fleas.

Grey Gardens is a Maysles Films Inc. production directed by David Maysles, Albert
Maysles, Ellen Hovde and Muffie Meyer, and associate produced by Susan Froemke.

I first thought it was Doc/Christopher Lloyd from "Back to the Future" but, according to the box next to it, it's Dr. Shivers. Okay...whatever. I also noticed it's got two left hands.

Just spotted over on towleroad.com that CNN anchor Thomas Roberts is gay! Here's the article titled Life as an Openly Gay Journalist: CNN's Thomas Roberts.

I was curious about him in a wishful way and now I know fer shure. If only Anderson Cooper and Bill Hemmer would follow suit. (Well, I know Cooper is at least as an "open secret" but have no confirmation about Hemmer. Does anyone know?)

Oh My Gawd! A "Young Frankenstein" Musical?!?

They've got to be kidding! A friend passed along this article:

Chenoweth, Hensley, Kudisch to Star in October Workshop of Young Frankenstein

Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan have finally finished the first draft of
their long-awaited musicalization of the 1974 film "Young
Frankenstein."

Susan Stroman, who guided Brooks and Meehan's The Producers to
success, will direct an October reading of the new musical, the New
York Post reported.

Kristin Chenoweth—long reported to be the creators' choice for the
Teri Garr role of Inga—will play that part. She'll be joined by Tarzan
star Shuler Hensley as the Monster and Thorough Modern Millie actor
Marc Kudisch as a police inspector who suspects Dr. Frankenstein. The
role of the doctor has not been cast.

The Post also said that Brooks wants Cloris Leachman to re-create the
role of horse-frightening Frau Blucher. A Brooks movie veteran, she
played the part in the movie.

As previously reported, Seattle may be the launch town for the show.
Brooks and Meehan have been laboring on the script since early 2003.

*

The film starred Gene Wilder as a descendant of Dr. Frankenstein who
goes to Eastern Europe and takes up his ancestor's hobbies, and Peter
Boyle as the monster he creates. It was one of Brooks' most successful
comedies, and, to many film critics, his most consistent and polished
work. The movie, a parody of the classic horror films of the 1930s,
was made in black and white and featured a famously hilarious scene in
which the Frankenstein monster is presented to the public in top hat
and tails, performing Irving Berlin's "Puttin' on the Ritz." Just as
the stage version of The Producers kept the song "Springtime for
Hitler" from the original film, one imagines this number would be
retained in any legitimate adaptation (if the Berlin estate OKs it).

Among the story's other characters are the doctor's fiancee (played in
the movie by Madeline Kahn), who goes from a prissy virgin to a
rapacious vixen with a Bride of Frankenstein hairdo; a comical
hunchback (Marty Feldman), who insists on being called "Eye-gor"; a
comely fräulein the doctor takes as his mistress (Garr); Frau Blücher
(Cloris Leachman), a woman so frightening the mention of her name
causes horses to rear up; and the rabble-rousing, speech-mangling
Police Inspector Hans Wilhelm Friederich Kemp (Kenneth Mars).

Pondering the Crickeyness of It All

Interesting to see how many hits I've gotten over the past nearly two days since I posted the article about Irwin's death but what's REALLY got me wonderin' is how many of the searches were along the lines of "Was Steve Irwin Christian?". What the flocking blazes is so intriguing about what frackin' religion he was? I have a feeling it may be to see if the more fundie amoungst us were wondering if they should waste their "Prayer energy" on a heathen?

Steve Irwin - RIP

Steve Irwin killed in freak accident at sea

A DOCTOR has told of the desperate efforts to save Australian icon Steve Irwin after the Crocodile Hunter was struck in the chest by a stingray barb today.

Irwin, 44, died this morning after being fatally injured while filming a nature documentary off Queensland.

The news has shocked the nation and prompted a rush of tributes from politicians and the public alike.

Irwin's wife Terri was in Tasmania at the time of the tragedy and had to be contacted by police with the terrible news.

Dr Ed O'Loughlin was aboard the Emergency Management Queensland Helicopter which was called from Cairns at 11.21am (AEST).

Irwin was being given CPR at Low Isles, off Port Douglas, as the helicopter arrived less than one hour after the incident, but Dr O'Loughlin said nothing could be done to save him.

"It became clear fairly soon that he had non-survivable injuries," Dr O'Loughlin said.

"He had a penetrating injury to the left front of his chest.

"He had lost his pulse and wasn't breathing."

Father-of-two Irwin was swimming at Batt Reef, off the Low Isles, when the tragedy occurred.

Tasmania Police this afternoon confirmed his wife Terri was travelling in the state at the time of the tragedy.

A spokeswoman said police had made contact with Mrs Irwin and "passed on a message relating to the death of her husband".

The Irwins have two children - a daughter, Bindi Sue Irwin, eight, and a three-year-old son, Robert (Bob) Clarence Irwin.

Steve Irwin - known worldwide as the Crocodile Hunter - was famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchcry "Crikey!".

In an sad twist, it has been reported that his new documentary was aimed at demystifying the stingray.

Irwin's Crocodile Hunter program was first broadcast in 1992 and has been shown around the world on cable network Discovery.

He has also starred in movies and has developed the Australia Zoo wildlife park, north of Brisbane, which was started by his parents Bob and Lyn Irwin.

Tributes quickly poured in for the larger-than-life character.
Prime Minister John Howard said Irwin was a typical Australian larrikin who brought joy to millions of people around the world.

"I am quite shocked and distressed at Steve Irwin's sudden, untimely and freakish death," he said.

"It's a huge loss to Australia."

A Tourism Queensland spokeswoman said the death was shocking and paid tribute to Irwin's "enormous contribution" to his adopted state.

"I don't think we could even estimate how much he brought us through his personality and his profile and his enthusiasm about Queensland," she said.

We're On a Post to Nowhere

I was moseying around YouTube.com the other day and found a few videos I hadn't seen in ages and this one I don't ever recall seeing at all way back when; although, it's one of my fave Talking Head tunes. I figured I share:

######

Other than that, on the completely useless news of the week front, got hit by a mega huge dental bill this past Wednesday, most of which came from having to replace a crown that I stupidly lost down the sink drain. ::LeSigh:: Time to hit the parental units up for mooch money.

And I finally got zapped in identity theft! I gotta call early Tuesday morning from the bank of this particular credit card saying that they had an odd charge that literally just happened and they wanted to double check to see if it was me. The charge was for $590 at Mango in Barcelona! Umm...yeah, a branch of a store I never heard of in a country roughly 6000 miles away and I'm in bed in TooStoned, Arid-zona. Definitely not me. I was very happy they called to confirm. I immediately had the card cancelled and a new one issued.

How the hecky-puddles the person got a hold of my number is beyond me since I take precautions. So, keep a close on on yer cards, folks!

######

OMG! Someone FINALLY posted this Lene Lovich song that I had been wanting to see again for ages but couldn't find anywhere! The last time I saw it, it was back in the early 80's and was quite well toasted, at New York's much belated Ritz (now, apparently, Webster Hall) attending a Jorma Kaukonen concert.
